Milestones

Back to the beginning of the summer...

Claudia Gasponi. Graduate. Cum Laude. Smarty Pants. June 8, 2013. College-bound. Supergirl.

Celebrating the Clear Falls High School Class of 2013

It was a great gathering with lots of food, family, and friends. One of Claudia's many milestones so far in life. With so much more in store for her in the future...

Do you remember when you read or saw the Pulitzer Prize winner To Kill a Mockingbird? This famous story marks a milestone for many of us. So many lessons learned throughout. It's definitely in the "classics" category. We're crossing it off the list tonight.
To Kill a Mockingbird
Star Wars (original, duh)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Poltergeist
The Elephant Man
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Rear Window
The Shining (maybe not)

Here are the poll answers from tonight's question:
What message does Atticus teach his children in this story?
R: Don't judge others just by what you hear and think. Get to know them.
M: Stand up for what's right.
Me: Respect is a strong value that can help guide you through life.

How many days of Summer?

Stinks that there are only forty eight days of summer this year...
just kidding. It just feels that way since we haven't chronicled our mini adventures so far. But sadly, forty eight is the amount of days LEFT this summer.
Last summer, this blog was intended to help us stay motivated to do stuff, or, not get bored, with so much time on our hands. This summer, we've managed to keep busy enough to have only a few boredom days. Now that we've taken a good look at Rachel's summer bucket list, it's time to start keeping track again, so we don't miss out on all the fun stuff we do. That's what blogs are for, right?

So why is there a picture of Jimmy Stewart in this post?
Summer Bucket List item #4:
Watch some movie classics.

Here's that list:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Star Wars (original, duh)
Fried Green Tomatoes
Poltergeist
The Elephant Man
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Rear Window
The Shining (maybe not)

Tonight we watched Rear Window. One of my all time favorites. It was fun watching Rachel cringe and stay on the edge of her seat. "Did he kill her or not? Just tell me!" When it was over, I interviewed the audience.
Mark- "Classic."
Rachel- "That was really good."
Me- "Don't you just love George Bailey?"

We've also watched Poltergeist. That was at the beginning of the summer when cousins Adeline and Alex were here visiting from California. Watching it after all these years was kinda funny... graphics and effects have come a long way from pop-up coffins and raw steaks that crawl across the kitchen counter ('member that?). With that said, none of us could tear ourselves away from the t.v. that day!
Adeline, Alex, and Rachel saying goodbye. Sad face.
Anyone have other classic movie suggestions for us? We'd love to hear your favorites.

Dinner on the road

Can you guess where we had dinner? Rachel's choice. Hey, it's vacation, right?

About 2 1/2 hours to our destination then we rest up for some serious wizard time tomorrow.

Waking up in Mississippi.

I slept through most of texas & all of Louisiana. When I woke up in Mississippi, this is what I saw. Maybe I'll see a real one soon!

Love,
Rachel
